| 2009-03-22 22:58 - IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING SITE CHANGES! | | Posted by George | more from same (Quake 4) | Please bear with me over the next week while site data is migrated over to FPSHQ.com
Forums and user accounts have been migrated over to the new platform. Over the next few days the the site will be fully intergrated with the new platform and we'll also be going live with www.fpshq.com soon to be your number 1 First Person Shooter source!
| 2007-11-20 22:39 - some updates | | Posted by George | more from same (Quake 4) | Just thought I'd post a little update as its been a very long time!
The site has been ticking along over the last few months and I've not really spent much time here. Well things are changing.
I have on order a brand new server that is around 20 times more powerful than the existing one. Of course I'm not upgrading just for the sake of it. (Well maybe but there are other reasons)
Some things planned in the pipeline.
Run some game servers, Q4, D3, ET:QW, COD4 and possibly Fear. Re-intergrate D3HQ/Q4HQ into a single centralised site
Watch this space. Shortly before Christmas there should be an announcment with the changes to be made.
See ya! | |
| 2006-03-08 17:52 - We're back again! | | Posted by George | more from same (Quake 4) | Hey guys!
First off an apology for the massive downtime we've had. As most of you are probably aware I had to move the site to different server however I had major problems with it and then right after that I took my vacation so didn't have any time to work on it as I was topping up my sun tan
Well after arriving back in the UK I was faced with loads of study for my Cisco CCNA course so I had to put the site on hold for a bit.
Well as you've probably figured by reading this, the site is back up again! I'll be hopefully updating it a bit over the coming weeks. As ever looking for assistance posting news.
[update]It appears there is a problem with the forum tables for Q4HQ. I'll take a look at this. Post a comment if you notice more bugs. D3HQ is up and working fine btw
See ya! George | |

| 2005-10-23 00:09 - Mod jumps ship from Doom 3 to Quake 4 | | Posted by George | more from same (Quake 4) | Looks like the Quake 2: Lost Marine mod has jumped ship from Doom 3 onto Quake 4. I belive one of the main reasons for this will have been the improved net code and the bigger fan base Quake 4 seems be generating because of this.
Heres what they had to say on their website
| Thought I'd update you all and fill you in on what's going on with the mod. Some of you may not want to hear it, but the majority of the mods responses have guided me into this direction. I'm porting Quake II: Lost Marine over to Quake 4. Yep, there will be no further updates to the DOOM 3 version. I've already begun merging over to Quake 4. I'll have some screenshots up sometime soon. |
And incase your wondering what this mods all about its a remake of Quake 2. You can take a look at their site Here
| 2005-10-19 00:39 - Got a Quake 4 file? | | Posted by George | more from same (Quake 4) | If you have a Quake 4 file no matter how big or small send me a PM or mail via this site and I will get it added onto the server for you!

| 2005-10-18 23:22 - Gamespot Rating towards Quake 4 | | Posted by Kev_Dawg | more from same (Quake 4) | The game we all been waiting for has just been released to the world. Now you question yourself, is the game any good?. Well for the rating Gamespot gave the game it's a little pathetic. There reason for the rating was the online part of the game wasn't as good as we thought it was going to be. Gamespot gave the game a 8.0 out of 10, and like I said I find that rating pathetic. I guess Quake 4 has followed the foot steps of Doom 3 with the down fall. I have never played the game but the rating of Quake 4 seems to be the same as when Doom 3 was released. Also if you like to comment about what I just said then feel free. For more info and to see the rating yourself click the url below.

| 2005-10-16 18:47 - IGN post a Quake 4 Review | | Posted by George | more from same (Quake 4) | IGN have posted a Quake 4 review and gave it a 8.2/10
| Unlike previous installments, single-player is there in a big way, with a winding plot, a cast of characters voiced by Hollywood actors, objective-based gameplay, light squad tactics, and countless set pieces. In fact, so much effort was put into the single-player presentation that the amount of multiplayer seems to have suffered as a result. For one reason or another, the franchise's priorities have zigged instead of zagged, and what we have now is MP maps with a 16-player cap, with only the Tournament Mode distinguishing it from the usual setup of deathmatch, team deathmatch and CTF. |
Could we be disapointed with the multiplayer side of Quake 4? Or is the 16 player limit a limitation of using the Doom 3 engine?

| 2005-09-24 23:26 - PunkBusterâ„¢ to be used in Quake 4 | | Posted by George | more from same (Quake 4) | Many of you Doom 3 fans will have noticed the addition of PunkBusterâ„¢ to the game from a recent patch. It has just been announced that Quake 4 will also be using PunkBusterâ„¢ to deter cheating in game.
Activision have contracted Even Balance to integrate their PunkBusterâ„¢ Anti-Cheat software into Quake 4.
| 2005-09-24 22:20 - Edge sit down with the ID Team | | Posted by George | more from same (Quake 4) | | Todd Hollenshead and Tim Willits sat down with Edge and discussed Quake 4's progress covering the games development on both the XBOX and PC. The October issue of Edge is now on sale in shops across the UK. For more info Click Here. | |
Tim Willits :
The first-person market has, of course, exploded. Technology-wise, John Carmack is still the technology leader with the paradigm of the bump, specular, height and local map, and a lot of companies have to now do that with their own engines. But we can all make fun games and have them sell reasonably well, and so long as supply doesn't outweigh demand, I think we can all benefit. It's exciting to see the different directions in which those companies have taken the genre - some folks in storytelling, some folks in physics and so on into whole new worlds. |
Todd Hollenshead :
I still believe that Doom 3 is the best looking technology on the PC that you can buy, even a year after it shipped. If you start with a base like that you really don't run away from it, and the two games are very different. The fact that we like making atmospheric games doesn't mean that they can't differ in style. Quake 4 is very much an action romp, and it's in contract to what Doom 3 was. |
Tim Willits :
Quake III was one of the most licensed engines and the Doom 3 engine is actually capable of rendering more varied environments than that one was. It's just that the art style of Doom 3 and Quake 4 are pretty similar. You can only build a space station in so many ways. If you look at some of the Prey stuff, you can see that, in certain areas at least, they've taken it in a cool direction. But any time you have the bumpmapped, stencil-shadowed world, it's going to have Doom signature to it. And the more you see technology advancing down specific paths the more that signature's going to become apparent. But there's still a lot of room to grow that technology up. |

| 2005-06-22 04:11 - Techspot Quake 4 round up | | Posted by George | more from same (Quake 4) | Techspot have got a small preview of Quake 4.
Let’s remember for a second that Quake III was developed as a multiplayer-oriented game, and Doom III, the latest game to be developed in-house by id, was supposedly set to bring back single-player action to its titles, that did not happen for many quality-wise, at least.
Quake 4 is a true sequel for Quake II, and gamers will play as a marine named Matthew Kane, a member of a military unit called the Rhino Squad. This should seem odd for people that played the first three Quake games, because this is the first time that we know the name of the character we are playing. The marines are supposed to be securing and cleaning up the planet Stroggos, which is the home planet of the Strogg aliens
It makes an interesting read and should wet your appetite in the run up to the release.

| 2005-06-05 17:22 - Gamespy have a new Quake 4 preview | | Posted by George | more from same (Quake 4) | Gamespy have got a new Quake 4 preview up on their site.
"As Raven has been building QUAKE 4 with the DOOM 3 engine for a little over three years now, the technology has continued to evolve, with Raven adding improved environmental effects and redoing a lot of network code. In addition to handling large-scale outdoor areas, you'll also get to control vehicles on occasion, the most common of which will be a hovertank and a mech walker. We did get to see the walker in action, putting Kane in combat against a number of similarly towering enemies, providing a nice change of pace to the other scenes throughout our demo."
You can check out the entire 3 page preview Here.
| 2005-06-05 16:58 - IGN Todd Hollenshead Interview | | Posted by George | more from same (Quake 4) | IGN have another Quake 4 interview this time with Todd Hollenshead (ID CEO). They talk Quake 4's story line, gameplay, multiplayer, and of course the Doom 3 engine from which Quake 4 is built upon.
"IGN: Do you think we'll see a Quake 4 test for the multiplayer before the game comes out?
Todd: That's a good question. I think what we'll want to do is test the networking, because we've pretty much redone all the networking and we like to get the community to test that and make sure that it's going to be solid before the game is done. We'll have to see as we get closer to completion of both the single-player and the multiplayer elements of the game as to how that's going to work out.
When you say "test," it kind of makes me think of Quake Test and QIII Test. In both those situations, it was a very early look at what the multiplayer was like. Quake III Test, I believe, came out in February, and the game came out in December, so that's nearly ten month in between. I think that one of the things that we learned from that is that we like to have all of the elements of the multiplayer done and not use it as much as a gameplay testing, but to really test the technology, so you would see a much more polished version of it if I could draw it up and have it be the way I wanted it to be."

| 2005-06-05 16:54 - IGN Tim Willits interview | | Posted by George | more from same (Quake 4) | IGN sat down with Tim Willits (ID level designer) and asked him about the story line and many more things
"IGN: How will the enemy AI in Quake IV be different and/or improved upon than Doom III?
Tim: First, the AI is different. It's a different system than the Doom III AI. You use a buddy system that's built from the Raven team, which is improved and enhanced over Soldier of Fortune and Elite Force. We're leveraging those experiences in Quake IV with all sorts of stuff. Your AI will run for cover and call for support. They'll do some rushing, while another one guy hold back. The AI doesn't like it when you shoot you. (Laughs) With the Strogg, they use cover nodes, zones of fire, strategic snipe points, and they are fully aware of the environment."
